I suspect she becomes pretty well known in L.A. (and even San Francisco) as “that nightclub singer who was taken hostage by that guy who stole all that money,” and when you combine that with her breaking up with Michael, well, I can see her wanting to get away and start fresh, so to speak. So this fic and the previous one actually take place in Chicago.
