I think...

I think...I may be writing my first slash pairing. Huh. (Though, as is usually the case with me, I'm sure nothing even close to explicit will make its way in, but still.)
This should be fun.Providing I ever finish it.
XD
This should be fun.

Sounds promising though! I understand too how all of a sudden you're writing along then you sit there going OH CRAP! in that the characters are driving you towards something. O.o
heh yes the icon is. ^_^

Date: 2009-08-11 11:34 pm (UTC)That's pretty much exactly how it was. XD It just sort of came out of nowhere and I was like, hell, it obviously feels natural; I might as well run with it.
And I love that cracked article. The pictures of Picard and Elrond they threw in just make it for me. XD

Date: 2009-08-13 06:29 pm (UTC)Hetalia is...an interesting series. Haha. I enjoy it immensely because
I'm a nerdof the historical/cultural aspects, but it does have the potential to be offensive. But if you can take a joke and/or laugh at yourself, you should be fine. The fandom can be a bit scary; the fact that the cast is mostly male combined with comedic sexual innuendo makes it a breeding ground for yaoi (het is rare and not that popular). That can be a little weird when you take a step back and realize you're slashing not fictional characters (as per usual), but fictional representations of real life countries. It's like a weird weigh station between normal slash and real person slash or something. I stick around because you get some great gen/history-based fics.Speaking of which, yaoi can be fun, but yes, it's difficult to pull off, as most characters are suggested to be hetero in canon. The main problem I have with yaoi is that a lot of it is just hot man-on-man action. Truthfully the same thing could be said about a lot of het, which is why I tend to not like to read or write romance/smut in general. If I wanted porn, I'd go read a romance/erotica novel. I'm in fandoms for the characters and the stories, not for the potential sex. That being, I will write (and have written) sex, but it's of the non-explicit sort--because the reasons surrounding the sex or the implications of it are always more important than who's licking what.
And "cock" is a funny word. I can't help but laugh every time I see it in a sex scene, which usually throws me right out of it. XDThat...ended up a lot longer than I intended. o.O

Maybe it's this XD I'll see. I'm fine with the jokes against Italy (hell, it's called "He-talia" X3), actually, it usually deserves them…
Yes, I agree about the rest. With yaoi is probably more obvious than in het-stories because 1) they are more and 2) many people tend to present very male, even virile characters as "girlish"… Either it's harder to keep them in character, or fan-writers are too young and female and have a very idealized version of just everything.
God, so it is a funny word! XDDD I thought I felt it as funny because I'm Italian. When I was younger and found the word "cock" in a fic I went to check on the dictionary just to be sure… and the first meaning was this (http://www.correrenelverde.com/animali/images/gallo.JPG). I mean. What is the semantic connection?… wait, I don't wanna know.

Date: 2009-08-17 08:24 pm (UTC)THAT right there. That nicely pinpoints the main reason I don't like most yaoi. The idea that, in a relationship, someone has to fill the "feminine" role, as the case may be. They're MEN. Just because they happen to like another dude, or start liking another dude, or simply like sex with another dude, etc., does not mean they're going to stop acting like men. But like you said, I think a lot of yaoi writers are simply too young and inexperienced to know this, or simply don't realize it. Maybe because the most common portrayal of gay men in media are the flamboyant, girlish types? Who knows? But there have been some slash stories I've LOVED, because they not only have a good plot (a plot at all!) and good characterizations, but because they kick the stereotypical seme/uke dynamic in the face. And that's refreshing.
God, I love your icon. So perfect! XD The word is generally seen as sort-of-vulgar slang in English (which might be another reason I don't like reading it--unless it's a first-person story, any slang in narration makes me go :\ ). It's still more goofy than vulgar to me. But yes, "cock" formally refers to a male rooster. Some connection between being a virile, dominating male and impregnating hens or something, I'm guessing. I'm honestly not too sure, myself.
