I liked this one.

Total Fic Wordcount for 2009:  Ugh, I have no idea, unfortunately, due to the way I store/write my stuff.  Ballpark estimate at 45,000?

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
Probably about what I expected.  It comes and goes.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2009?
A Tale of Two Cities, with A Fine and Private Place.  As a general rule, I don't touch fandoms of media I've loved since childhood, especially not when they're classic literature.  I liked the way it turned out, and reception has been great, but it's not something I intend to do very often, if ever again.

Did you take any writing risks this year? (See above for unexpected pairings, etc.) What did you learn from them?
Hmm...yeah, I think you could call them that.  I learned that writing a chick who's a couple cans short of a six pack can be really fun, yet kind of scary for that same reason.  Also, delusional megalomaniacs can be hilarious.  Also also, I can write sex.

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
I'd like to finish Forward and Reverse, this three-part Hetalia fic that is, at the heart of it, once you look through the angsty historical and political backdrop of it, an honest-to-goodness love story.  And I've thought about making a profic effort for a while... So we'll see.

From my past year of writing, what was...

My Favorite Story:
But That Was In Another Country.  Or This Is the Way the World Ends (which I am counting because I had 98% of it written before the new year), but that might just be because it's so recent and I haven't had time to really look at it objectively.  But I'm such a sucker for smoker!Austria and sympathetic!Prussia, so long as he's still a bastard while he's being sympathetic.

My Best Story:  But That Was In Another Country, methinks.

Story Most Underappreciated by the Universe:  Parallelism.  Or Fără.  It's even a pairing, for crying out loud, IT EVEN HAS SEX, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, but noooo, the DTB fandom has to be all, "We like HeixMisaki, even though their interactions are limper than a wet noodle."  XP  You'd think a dark, angsty fic would go over well, considering it's a dark, angsty series.

Most Fun:  Words For Thoughts, but Dusking was pretty fun (and light), too.  And Datura, my unfinished Trigun multi-chapter, despite being a very angsty story about three very damaged people, has more than a few fun parts I enjoyed writing.

Most Surprising:  Words For Thoughts.  Because OMG I WROTE A ROMANCE/HUMOR FIC.

Most Disappointing:  Previously mentioned Forward and Reverse, because I started it so wanting a one-shot, and it has so turned into a mini-epic.  And my multi-chapters are unofficially doomed to never being finished, so...  That, or Chance of Rain.  For weird reasons I'm not going to get into here.

Sexiest:  Datura.  And even then, it's dark sex between a homicidal dude with a god-complex and a chick who has one hell of a case of PTSD.

Sexiest Single Moment:  ...More than a few from Datura.

Hardest to Write:  Forward and Reverse, because it's so historical, which means lots of research.  And The Fine Art of Losing, my unfinished Darker Than Black manga one-shot.  Inspiration is difficult to find, and very fleeting.  But I really like the idea of it.  I think it could be one of my best, provided I can ever manage to finish it.

"Holy crap, that's wrong even for you" Fic:  Again, probably Datura, due to the D/s-ness of the relationship, an exhibition-y moment, and the previously mentioned fact that the people involved are not exactly mentally healthy.  (Damn, I so need to finish this.  XD)  Either that, or Till We Become Accustomed To the Dark, my hopefully-soon-to-be-finished AustriaxTifa Hetalia/FFVII crack pairing, because, seriously, WTF.

Fic That Shifted My Own Perceptions of the Characters:  The Fine Art of Losing.  Kana went from being a typical stupid shoujo heroine to a traumatized girl I actually felt genuine sympathy for.  Unfortunately she was probably intended to be said typical stupid shoujo heroine, but what the hell do the writers know?

Most Unintentionally Telling:  Something Blue.  Yes, the very detached, minimalistic fic.
