I can't help but think there's something ironic (and maybe even a little sad?) at how it's only when Austria puts on a physical mask that he can express his true feelings. It is very much like his music in that respect--a wall of some sorts, like you said. And I never really thought about the reputation thing quite like that--I guess I'd argue he holds back out of concern for both their reputations, but for the sake of convincing Italy, it probably made more sense to focus on how it would affect Hungary. Italy probably cares about her more, after all. While Austria can be mean and scary and consistently denies him pasta. XD
