Total Fic Wordcount for 2012: Maybe 20,000?
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
A lot less than I wanted to, but alas, inspiration was fleeting.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2012?
Eh, nothing really. I mean, I started writing Star Trek fic this year, but the fic gears were already turning by January 2012, so…
Did you take any writing risks this year? (See above for unexpected pairings, etc.) What did you learn from them?
Hmm. Well, I was going to say no, but I basically adopted an abandoned multi-chapter Trek fic, (Façades) which is something I’ve never done before. I have a bad track record when it comes to multi-chapters (which is why you’ve never seen me post any, because they’re all unfinished and/or abandoned), so we’ll see what happens with it. I’ve written one entirely new chapter for it so far. In some respects, it’s a fun gear change from my usual character-driven one-shots—trying to write something that’s longer and more plot-driven.
Do you have any fanfic or pro-fic goals for the New Year?
STILL want to finish and post Forward and Reverse. T_T (Are you getting sick of that answer yet? My interest in Hetalia has been rekindled, though, so here’s hoping it might actually happen this year. I reread what I have written so far, and it’s mostly done—I just have to kind of tie it all together.) Beyond that, I’d (again) like to just post more in general.
From my past year of writing, what was…
My Favorite Story: Probably a toss-up between Built Upon Sand and Castles. Castles was more ambitious and more psychological (and I do love exploring character psychology, after all), but Built Upon Sand started the whole Lore/Ishara pairing, so…it’s hard to choose.
My Best Story: Probably Castles, though I do have some minor issues with it. (I’ll admit, I’m still not entirely happy with the way Lore and Ishara end up having sex that first time. Or rather, I’m not entirely happy with my writing of it—the translation from thought to words, you know? Part of me thinks the actual sex should be a little bit more drawn out, but at the same time, it’s supposed to be this spontaneous, what-the-fuck-just-happened thing. So I’m a bit torn when it comes to that. But I am happy with and proud of the rest of it.)
Story Most Underappreciated by the Universe: My France/Hungary (past Austria/Hungary) ficbit thing. But that was little more than a drabble and I didn’t exactly advertise it a lot, so I can’t really complain too much. XD
Most Fun: Aforementioned France/Hungary ficbit thing, if that counts. I had forgotten how much I loved those characters and their relationships. The edit/rewrite of Façades was fun, too (again, if it counts), mostly because all the hard work (like plot) had already been taken care of. Another fun aspect of that fic is that, because it’s a dark AU, I can actually really get behind the Data/Tasha pairing. (For complicated reasons, while I have a soft spot for the pairing, I have trouble genuinely shipping the canon characters.)
Most Surprising: Façades, due to the fact that it wasn’t mine to begin with and I kind of adopted it. Or else Castles, because of how friggin’ long it turned out—my longest one-shot to date, actually.
Most Disappointing: Hrmm…I guess I don’t really have one of these this year. I mean, I have little issues with each of the few fics I wrote, but at the same time, I’m more or less equally happy with all of them, so… *shrug*
Sexiest: Castles, probably. Though there was all that delightful tension in Chapter 10 of Façades…
Sexiest Single Moment: The Lore/Ishara snarking-during-sex in Castles. Or else the gin and tonic scene, odd as that may sound. (Lore: hot bartender, or hottest bartender?)
Hardest to Write: Façades. For the aforementioned reasons (I’m not good with plot-driven multi-chapters).
Easiest to Write: France/Hungary ficbit, or else All the King’s Horses and All the King’s Men. That one came pretty easily. But I’d probably have to go with the France/Hungary bit, because I knocked that out in a couple hours, whereas All the King’s Horses… took a good couple weeks.
"Holy crap, that's wrong even for you" Fic: Lore/Ishara is crack, but it’s hardly surprising for me. XD So probably nothing, sad as that is.
Fic That Shifted My Own Perceptions of the Characters: Castles. I don’t know if it shifted my perceptions, exactly…but it fleshed Ishara out so much more than I anticipated. I never expected her to be quite so tragic and emotionally messed up.
Most Unintentionally Telling: Maybe Chapter 10 of Façades? Castles? France/Hungary? I never know what to put for this question.
