Year In Writing Review

Total Fic Wordcount for 2011: Hrmm...maybe about 25,000? Maybe closer to 30,000?
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
More than I expected to, still less than I wanted to. (It was a busy year, what can I say?)
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2011?
Well, I don't know if it counts, since I haven't finished the fic(s), but I guess Valkyrie Profile. I wasn't even aware of its existence last January. Other than that, maybe the Austria/Turkey action in Young Man, I Do Believe You're Dying?
Did you take any writing risks this year? (See above for unexpected pairings, etc.) What did you learn from them?
Erm, not really. To Ride On ended up surprisingly psychological, but I wouldn't say that was a risk, per se...
Do you have any fanfic or pro-fic goals for the New Year?
STILL want to finish and post Forward and Reverse, my tragically-long-but-too-good-for-me-to-give-up-on Austria/Hungary fic. T_T Would also like to just post more in general.
From my past year of writing, what was...
My Favorite Story: Mm, I think Mood Indigo.
My Best Story: It's a shame I actually wrote Steadier Footing in 2010, otherwise I would put it here. XD I guess I'd have to go with Mood Indigo again. To Ride On was pleasantly surprising, though. Its predecessor, White Horses, had been my "let's try to write some honest-to-god porn!" fic, so with that out of the way, the sequel was a bit more focused on story and character psychology. I mean, it was still kind of porny, but that wasn't the main focus I had when writing it. Which I liked.
Story Most Underappreciated by the Universe: The Hetalia fandom seems to have peaked, so there's perhaps been a bit less love for fics this year than there has been in past years, but they all got love of some sort, so I can't complain.
Most Fun: A Perpendicular Expression, or Handfuls. :D I occasionally like to indulge in lighter romance/humor stories, mostly because they are fun. (I admit Mood Indigo was kind of fun, too, because it had Prussia, and Prussia's always fun to write--particularly when he's playing off of Austria. XD)
Most Surprising: A few could fit the bill, here, actually: 1.) Mood Indigo, because when I finally got back to working on that installment, it ended up taking a very different turn than I originally had planned. I love the way it turned out, but there was very little of the "original" fic left by the time I was done. 2.) Young Man..., for that Austria/Turkey bit that came out of nowhere. XD And 3.) To Ride On, because it was a sequel. Most of my fics are planned as (and stay as) one-shots, so for a sequel idea to crop up is pretty surprising in and of itself.
Most Disappointing: Perhaps And Then Start Down. But even that...it isn't that I think it's bad, exactly...maybe more that because it took me so long to finish, it just sort of naturally seems anti-climactic to me? It's really hard to explain with that one. In my head, I'm always "meh :/" about it, but then if I go back and read it, I'm like, "WTF, self? It's not bad." But somehow that never sinks in and I go back to thinking of it as "meh."
Sexiest: To Ride On, again, hands down.Stupid sexy AustriaxBelarus...
Sexiest Single Moment: Erm...probably the dining table scene in To Ride On. *coughs* *blushes* *coughs*OTL.
Hardest to Write: And Then Start Down. The fic had actually been started for a very long time (like maybe early 2010?), but it just...I don't know. Motivation was hard to come by, and fleeting when it did come by. I think a part of it might be that I don't feel I have a very good handle on Spain? Maybe?
Easiest to Write: Handfuls, or else Young Man... Both came pretty easily. I guess Handfuls would win, though, if only because it's shorter.
"Holy crap, that's wrong even for you" Fic: Can't say I really had one of these this year. :(
Fic That Shifted My Own Perceptions of the Characters: Maybe Young Man... It was the first time I've written Turkey, and by the end I was just like, "Aw, Turkey, you're really quite a bit more decent than you let on, you know that?"
Most Unintentionally Telling: Consider Phlebas? It's always hard to say.
