YES. YES YES YES. I'm so glad that comes across. I guess what I try to do with all my head-canon, but especially my head-canon for AusHun, is to balance history with the canon portrayals. So I think that, while there was some genuine attraction and affection between the two, it was always a pretty tumultuous relationship--because you had that power-play for so long, where Hungary was under his rule, and Austria was kind of prone to being a dick, and while I think their marriage helped, it didn't fix everything, and even brought some new problems to the table, and so, yeah. By the time 1989 rolls around, they're on much more equal footing, and they've had that distance, both physically and politically, and it's kind of like, OKAY, MAYBE THIS CAN FINALLY BE A HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP, Y/Y? :D
Haha (hopefully this isn't tl;dr), it was actually one of the first fics I started writing for the fandom, but it went from a one-shot to a pseudo-epic three-parter, and then the Edelweiss Arc took off, so I told myself to concentrate on finishing that first, since one-shots are more manageable for me. But yeah, it's basically a marriage fic that takes the Revolution of 1848 into account, so you've got dick!Austria, and tsundere!Hungary, a lot of history, and angst all around. XD It's pretty far along, and has been too good for me to drop completely, so here's hoping. (And it actually follows the same time-line as the Edelweiss Arc, so that's kind of doubly exciting.)
