Fic Rambles

RL has taken over, leading to this almost-three-month gap (which will likely be even longer, by the end of it) between fic postings.  Which saddens me.  Mostly because the Edelweiss Arc has become something like my baby, and I am so close to having it done.  Seriously, guys.  I've only got two more "official"* fics left to post.  One of them is even complete, and has been complete for months now, but it's the very last installment, and despite how this arc has jumped all over the place chronologically, I'd kind of like it to end at the end, yanno?

Still, I've been plugging away at the unfinished installment a little bit here and there as of late, which feels good.  I hadn't worked on it in a long time, and sometimes that can be good, to go back to it all refreshed.  It's looking like it might end up a bit longer (3,000 words? but maybe I'm just being optimistic) than the most recently posted chapters, so that's something to feel good about.

And on a similar note, of going back to something all refreshed, I've done a little bit more work on my epic** 1848-1867 Austria/Hungary fic, Forward and Reverse.  This is my other baby, that I started not long after I got into the Hetalia fandom--so it's been a WIP since late 2009.  And unlike my other multi-chapters that are more or less doomed to WIP hell, I'm holding out hope for this one.  It helps that the premise/plot is just too good for me to drop, and that I tend to think of it less as a "multi-chapter" and more as a "three-parter," so it seems more manageable in my head.

Anyway, so I've been getting back to that.  I think I've hinted at my writing process before, but never got very specific, but--I tend to write fics entirely out of order (one of the reasons I can't do multi-chapters).  I'm one of those people who writes little scenes, sentences, snippets of dialogue, and then ties them all together at the end.

Well.

I'm mostly at that tying-things-together phase in Forward and Reverse.  Which is a fairly big undertaking in and of itself, but, yanno.  I'm there.  Like, it's happening.  (Truly, it makes me far happier than it by all means should, when I can delete the returns I put in as placeholders, and bring two lines of writing together in a blissful literary kiss.)

EDIT (because I forgot like a jackass): I've also tossed around the idea of compiling something of a soundtrack/correlated FST for the Edelweiss Arc. Music plays a big part in my writing process, setting the right mood and all, and it's no secret I've nabbed more than a couple fic titles from songs, so...I don't know. Just a thought. (To all and any who are following the arc: Thoughts? Opinions?)

* "Official" being a nebulous, not-quite-accurate term.  "Original" might be slightly more accurate, as I'm referring to all the fics I originally had planned for the arc.  (Since then, a couple more ideas have cropped up, but I'm not yet sure if they're worthwhile, so I hesitate to officially include them.  I'd rather just play it safe for now and call it done at eleven fics.)

** "Epic" being another nebulous, not-quite-accurate term.  Really, it's pretty normal-sized, maybe even short, for a multi-chapter (19,000 words as of now, and I'm hoping it finishes no more than 25,000), but I still have a tendency to want to call it epic because, 1.) it was originally a one-shot, but I found I had to break it into three parts because a 20,000 word fic would be pretty epic for a one-shot, 2.) I don't do multi-chapters as a general rule, because they're too time-consuming, and 3.) the time period from 1848-1867 was pretty fucking epic for Austro-Hungarian history.

tl;dr: Edelweiss Arc not dead, will be finished I promise, but unfortunately can't promise when; other Austria/Hungary fic might just yet see the light of the internet one of these days; Edelweiss Arc FST, Y/N?

This post might have been just one big excuse to use my newest icon.
