Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
Less than I wanted to, but about what I expected, if I’m being honest. This year was pretty busy, as fortunate or unfortunate as that may be.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2015?
Frozen, definitely, as far as fandoms go. I saw it when it hit the rentals back in 2014, mostly just to see what all the fuss was about, and thought it was fine—a decent flick, but nothing that knocked my socks off, and I enjoyed it more for the cultural literacy it brought than anything else. I found the whole thing pretty darn forgettable, to be honest—which just made it all the weirder when it suddenly popped into my head in late November, with my brain being all, “HEY. HANS AND ELSA. YOU GOTTA SHIP ‘EM. DON’T ASK QUESTIONS; YOU JUST GOTTA.” (I mean, I know why I started shipping Hans and Elsa—complicated ships are my jam, after all, and it doesn’t get much more complicated than “she means well, but her actions are mostly cowardly and even selfish” and “he’s an ambitious dickbag who tries to kill her”—but as far as why the film suddenly came to mind in the first place, I have no idea.) I also got on a weird, nostalgic Ghostbusters kick back in early November, which resulted in me starting to write an Egon/Janine fic, but I only got about halfway done before Real Life demanded my attention, after which my interest waned.
Did you take any writing risks this year? (See above for unexpected pairings, etc.) What did you learn from them?
No real risks, I don’t think—unless you want to count I’ve Seen You In a Fight (You Lost), which is decidedly more dubious on the consent front than my usual pairing stuff. (But even then, it’s just kissing, so not nearly as bad as it could be.) There’s also Uncanny, which has some pretty obvious non-con vibes, but they’re just vibes, and more for show (even in-story) than anything.
Do you have any fanfic or pro-fic goals for the New Year?
Would still like to finish my Escaflowne arc (ahahaha ^^’), and would like to continue my rewrite of Catherine and the Pirate. Beyond that, I just would like to write a bit more in general, but we’ll see how Real Life goes.

My Favorite Story: Quite possibly my rewrite of Catherine and the Pirate. I’m a sucker for age-of-sail action, and the story itself is just so (relatively) light and fun. Plus I get to really emphasize the sexual tension (;DDD), as it’s YA, and nothing racier than kissing happens.
My Best Story: Either Uncanny or Silver and Exact. I’m leaning toward Silver and Exact, actually, but since I just finished and posted that less than two weeks ago, it’s still kind of hard to say—I don’t quite yet have that distance that allows me to really assess things objectively. I do really like the way Uncanny turned out, though. It was an idea I’d had kicking around for a while and never thought I would seriously get to it, so it was nice when I did. I still think the episode it takes place in is pretty bad, but if I ignore the context and just focus on the Lore/Troi interaction I really like it, haha.
Most Popular Story: Definitely Silver and Exact. Even despite it being published on December 30th, by the time the 1st rolled around, it had pretty much blown all the others out of the water in terms of reviews and hit counts.
Story Most Underappreciated by the Universe: I’ve Seen You In a Fight (You Lost), but it’s pretty understandable, haha. It’s a small fandom, it’s focused on a niche pairing, plus it’s a weird AU take on a previous fic of mine. What little attention it did get was very thoughtful and made me very happy, though.
Most Fun: Definitely Go Ahead, Make My Latte, though Foil gets an honorable mention because GADDES. ;D
Most Surprising: Probably I’ve Seen You In a Fight (You Lost), because it’s a weird AU scenario, and I’m not usually one to entertain those. Silver and Exact could count, too, as I never would have expected myself to be writing a Frozen fic until I actually started doing it.
Most Disappointing: Maybe my rewrite of Catherine and the Pirate? And only because I wish I could have posted more than the first four chapters? (I actually have chapter 6 ready to post, and chapter 7 is almost there, but chapter 5 keeps tripping me up. It’s very short, actually, but it’s all villain-focused, and as I’d like to give the villain some ACTUAL FUCKING MOTIVATIONS (which he was severely lacking in the original book), it basically needs to be all new material, which is something I just haven’t had the time or the inclination for.) Overall, though, I was pretty happy with my writing this year.
Sexiest: Definitely a tie between I’ve Seen You In a Fight (You Lost) and Uncanny, though both are sexy in a decidedly dark way. Silver and Exact might get points for most extreme sexual tension, though, pfft.
Sexiest Single Moment: I’m gonna say the handshake in Silver and Exact, though I admittedly have pretty weird opinions on what’s sexy. XD
Hardest to Write: None of them, really? Silver and Exact gave me some trouble at the end, but it really wasn’t that difficult to overcome it, all things considered.
Easiest to Write: Either Go Ahead, Make My Latte or Foil. I typically find lighter/humorous fics easier (probably because they’re less emotionally exhausting, haha). These were also two of the shortest fics I wrote this year.
"Holy crap, that's wrong even for you" Fic: I don’t know, does the fact that I wrote an actual coffeeshop AU count? XP
Fic That Shifted My Own Perceptions of the Characters: I don’t know if it’s “shifted my own perceptions of the characters” so much as “shifted my own perception of the canon in general,” but Uncanny kind of warmed me up to “Descent,” if only because I was able to focus on Troi and make her a bit of a badass. (I mean, she’s still totally out of her league when it comes to Lore, but at least she got to be more than the token chick who FEELS things, as she generally was in-series; she’s a trained professional, after all, and this gave her the opportunity to try to get some information out of a villain. I like the idea that she could be manipulative with people if she wanted to be, and my favorite part of that fic might just be when she crosses her legs and almost brushes Lore’s, and it’s just like, “OH, MAN. AM I TRYING TO PLAY FOOTSIE WITH YOU? WHO FUCKING KNOWS?”Of course Lore then goes and ups the ante by, like, a million, BUT STILL.)
